About Male Low Libido ( Low Sex Drive ) and Free On-line
Questionnaire
Low libido is also referred
to as having: no libido / no sex drive
/ low or no interest in sex / no or low sexual desire. The
condition can be more disturbing for some men, than other sexual
issues due to a societal expectation that men are ‘always up for
it’ and the view that men have this uncontrollable desire for
sex. On the other hand, many men may not be concerned about the
issue at all but their partners may be. For some, the lack of
sexual desire may be interpreted as their partner not being
interested in them. This can cause relationship issues and a
deep sense of resentment particularly as some people see sexual
engagement as a way of illustrating love. Note that a lack of
libido should not be confused with erectile dysfunction.
Male Low libido may be
categorised as either:
Lifelong – the
individual has never been interested in engaging in sexual
experiences
Acquired - interest
in sex has existed in the past but it has now reduced
(current relationship issues, family-of-origin belief
systems and values, previous conditioning, personal
expectations, attitudes towards sexuality or past traumatic
events)
Situational –
interest in sex presents on some occasions and with some
partners but not in others
Generalised – the
person has no interest in sex in all situations, thus has a
low sex drive in general.
There are many contributing factors that are known to either
cause and / or maintain the dysfunction such as:
Some medications
Alcohol
The use of illicit drugs
Aging – increases with age
Obesity
Low testosterone levels
Some major illnesses such as diabetes
Depression
Stress / anxiety
Pressure / overload from work or home
Relationship issues
General life dissatisfaction
Fatigue
And a range of other emotional /
psychological issues
Like all sexual issues for
both men and women, the issue can be complex and may stem from either one cause
or a variety of factors. However don’t lose heart just yet, there are many
avenues to consider in order to move forward to a solution strategy.
